The Nate Leslie Cup is something of legend. Established back in the Ice Hockey Superleague days, it was a by product of the friendship between a few of Belfast Giants and London Knights fans. The prestigious trophy was, in those days, awarded to the fans of the team who got furthest in the Playoff Championship.
Nate Leslie, a legend of the London Knights, needs no introduction at all. Look him up!
In recent years the trophy has been competed for directly by means of the age old game of Rock-Paper-Scissors (hither to referred as RPS).
This season, at Playoff Finals Weekend 2010, The Nate Leslie Cup will once again be competed for by fans from across the 8 Elite League Teams.
The current holders, The Belfast Giants, will form a 7 man team to take on an “Elite League Select VII” made up from one fan from each of the 7 remaining EIHL teams.
These 2 teams will under take a “Best of 7” RPS series to decide the winner of the Nate Leslie Cup.
Entrants (Belfast):
The Belfast Captain will be nominated from one of the reigning NL Cup winning squad.
This Captain will arrive and hold trials in Rockies Bar prior to the game (approx. 5pm) against the Newcastle Vipers on Saturday March 20th 2010.
E-mail applications to take part in these trials open on Monday February 15th 2010 and close on Saturday March 13th 2010.
The trials will take place by means of a round robin competition to be detailed closer to March 20th.
All entrants must be travelling to Nottingham for the 2010 Playoff Finals Weekend.
Entrants (EIHL Select VII):
E-Mail applications to join the EIHL Select VII will open on Monday February 15th 2010 and close on Saturday March 20th 2010.
Details required for these applications will be provided on KingdomoftheGiants.com, The official Facebook Group of the Nate Leslie Cup – 2010 Invitational, UK Hockey LIVE and the A View from the Bridge Podcast later this week.
An “independent panel of experts”, will then proceed to pick one fan from each remaining EIHL team (and one substitute) to fill the Select VII. A “Team Captain” will also be selected at this time.
All entrants must be travelling to Nottingham for the 2010 Playoff Finals Weekend.
A Captain will be designated from the 7 selected team members.
Format:
Each Team Captain must provide an ordered “team sheet” to the referee at least 10 minutes before competition begins.
This team sheet will designate the order in which your team will individually compete.
Traditional RPS rules apply, with the “2 pumps reveal/show on 3” method being the games driving rule.
Each team member will compete in a “best of 3” against his or her opponent, 1 team point is awarded for a “best of 3” victory.
In the event of a tied hand, the point is to be replayed until a clear winner is determined.
If an individual is deemed to have been late in their reveal, or change their reveal, the referee has the discretion to award the point to the opposition, or replay the point accordingly.
The Nate Leslie Cup – 2010 Invitational Champions will be the first team to reach 4 points
The Referee’s decision is final.
